The best advice I have for any student athlete who wants to play at the next level is to be proactive! If you email a college coach and they do not respond, this does not mean they are not interested. You absolutely cannot give up there! You need to be persistent until you hear the program does not have a spot for you. The recruiting process is a journey. Being proactive is the only way to be successful!
Suggestions for success:
- Be creative! Do not send a generic introduction. When you begin the process, create a large list of schools to contact.
- You must share video! If a coach doesn’t have a highlight reel to view, they don’t have the ability to offer you an evaluation. You want them to be interested in what they see in your video to make it a priority to evaluate you live.
- Complete the questionnaires! If a coach email’s a prospective questionnaire, take the time to complete it.
- Research the school. YouTube will be your best friend! Campus tours are fun to watch online. They will give you an idea of what the school has to offer, and why the students they interview chose the school.
- Follow up with a call. It doesn’t matter if a coach cannot reach back out to you, you can pick up the phone and call them. It’s really important you are calling. This is a differentiator!
- Send continuous and interesting updates on how you are progressing throughout your season.
- Get on campus. College tours are the only way to figure out what you want in your college experience.
