College Summer Camps: Which Camp Should I Attend?

So, you are getting a ton of college camp brochures and you are trying to decide which camps to attend?!  College camps are an excellent opportunity to receive more exposure, meet the coaching staff, and meet the athletes who currently play for the program.  As a student athlete, you should choose wisely when it comes to these camps.

You should only be attending camps of programs that are recruiting you!  College coaches typically are using this time to evaluate potential prospects for their program and compare you side by side. My Recruiting Solutions suggests attending a minimum of 3 different camps per summer while going through the recruiting process.  This allows the athlete to compare programs, campuses, prospective teammates, coaches, and dorm rooms.  MRS also recommends having the athlete take the contact information for the players on the team to remain in touch.  In cases where a student-athlete may be going away to school, he/she can build relationships early so it is an easier transition when leaving home.

During camp, the athlete may decide the program is not a “perfect fit.”  At the end of the day, the student athlete should have a love for the school.  It’s important to try and envision him/her in the dorm rooms, walking the campus, and sitting in the classrooms.  MRS offers an evaluation sheet to take with the student athlete to camp.  It allows the athlete to do a report card on the school.  At the end of the summer after attending camps, most athletes can communicate what they are looking for in a program.  [wp-like-locker]Click Here [/wp-like-locker]for the Visiting Schools Form.
