Over the last week I have been touring campuses throughout Texas. I visited Austin College, Houston Baptist, Baylor and tomorrow I get on TCU. Each institution has something unique to offer their student athletes. It’s been neat to understand their recruiting needs, and what they expect from athletes whom they are recruiting.
Throughout my conversations, it’s clear these coaches appreciate student athletes who are direct about what they are looking for in their college experience. This is tough to articulate if you haven’t been on many college campuses. If you are just beginning the recruiting process, I would highly recommend taking your player onto at least 3 college tours near your home. Regardless if the schools are recruiting them, or if they are an athletic fit, just the experience of getting on a college campus and learning about what is available will be powerful for your athlete.
The coaches shared with me that there are so many good players out there, so it’s important you stand out from the competition. Be creative in your written communication, and stay in frequent contact with the programs. It’s important to work on building a relationships with these programs, so you can best understand the commitment to play at that level.
